Jaguar to unveil electric GT Type 01 in New York — Autocar
Jaguar is set to present the production version of the electric GT Type 01 in New York, USA. It will become the brand’s first model under its new positioning as a manufacturer of luxury electric vehicles. According to Autocar, the car, with more than 1,000 hp, will enter the market in the first half of 2027.
The first Jaguar of a new era
The model was previously known as the Type 00 concept and under the internal code X900. As Jaguar explained, the Type 01 name combines several meanings: the Type prefix refers to the historic C-Type, D-Type, E-Type and F-Type, the number 0 signifies zero emissions, and 1 highlights its status as the first Jaguar of a new era.
The company has already shown the Type 01’s interior. It features a minimalist design and is divided into four sections by a central element that Jaguar calls the “spine.” The car will not have a rear window: rearward visibility will be provided by a camera similar to the system in the Polestar 4.

JLR Chief Commercial Officer Leonard Hoornik, speaking at an investor day on June 17, said that the model’s launch would be carried out “in a very, very special way.” Autocar believes that the choice of New York for the presentation, following the concept’s unveiling in Miami last year, indicates that JLR considers the United States an important market for the new model.
Price and future models
The estimated price of the Type 01 will range from £120,000 to more than £150,000 for well-equipped and personalised versions. Jaguar aims to position the model between more mainstream premium brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz and luxury car manufacturers Bentley and Aston Martin.
The launch of the Type 01 will end an approximately 18-month pause in the production of new Jaguars, which began after production of the F-Pace SUV was discontinued in December. Autocar previously reported that the next models on the new JEA architecture could be a large saloon and an SUV. However, their specifications and the possible Type 02 and Type 03 names have not been officially confirmed.
