Water service disruptions on the right bank of Kyiv due to power problems

Water supply disruptions have occurred on the right bank of Kyiv due to an emergency in the city’s power grid. Some of the water pumping stations lost power, so the pressure in the system had to be reduced. Power company crews have already repaired the damage, and utility workers are gradually restoring normal water service.

Water supply problems have arisen on the right bank of Kyiv. The cause was an emergency in the city’s power grid. Due to power issues, some of the water pumping stations lost power. As a result, the pressure in the water supply network had to be temporarily reduced to the minimum level. “Due to a problem with the power supply, some water pumping stations have lost power. There are water supply disruptions on the city’s right bank,” the mayor noted. Initially, utility workers focused on restoring power. Afterward, city workers were tasked with restoring normal water pressure in the water supply network.

As of the evening of October 7, power utility workers had already repaired the damage. Power supply to consumers on the right bank has begun to be restored, and “Kyivvodokanal” is normalizing pressure in the network. They plan to fully restore water supply within 2–3 hours. At the same time, the water disruptions occurred amid a massive Russian attack on Ukraine. Due to strikes on energy infrastructure, new power outages were also reported in several regions of Ukraine.

In Kyiv, the attack also caused damage and fires in various parts of the capital. Specifically, a fire broke out in a garage cooperative in the Darnytskyi district. While extinguishing the fire, rescue workers evacuated two people from the building. The bodies of two victims were also found at the scene. In the Podilskyi district, an office and warehouse building caught fire and was partially destroyed as a result of the attack. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris fell onto the grounds of a non-residential building. In the Obolonskyi district, strikes on non-residential buildings were also reported.

Due to power supply issues in the capital, there were temporary disruptions in public transportation service. Specifically, voltage briefly dropped at some metro stations, after which the system switched to backup power. City services continue to work on restoring damaged systems. Kyivvodokanal previously explained that after the pumping equipment is restarted, it takes some time for the pressure to stabilize throughout the network and for water to flow steadily to all homes again. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the disruptions.

As a reminder, at least two people were killed in Kyiv as a result of the nighttime attack.

Russia struck Zaporizhzhia’s transportation infrastructure.

Russia also struck Dnipro with ballistic missiles, damaging a facility.
