Anduril receives $2.9 billion US Navy contract — CNBC
US defense technology company Anduril has received a contract from the US Navy worth up to $2.9 billion to support submarine production. As CNBC reports, the company will manufacture components for Virginia-class submarines.
New production facility
The project предусматривает Anduril investing $3.7 billion in private capital to develop the new Arsenal-2 shipbuilding facility in Baltimore County, Maryland. It is scheduled to begin operations in 2030.
According to Anduril, the facility will cover more than 2 million square feet. Some components will also be manufactured at a 160,000-square-foot facility in Orange County, California. The company’s president and chief strategy officer, Chris Brose, said the project is intended to help the United States meet the need to increase submarine output.

Contract context
The deal became known several days after the US Department of Defense invited Anduril co-founder and CEO Palmer Luckey to the new Project Meridian initiative. It is intended to identify and develop capabilities for future US conflicts. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also joined the project.
Virginia-class submarines are built by General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries. In the summer, General Dynamics received a $76.6 billion contract from the US Navy to build submarines. Anduril said Arsenal-2 could generate an annual economic impact of $2 billion and create 3,100 jobs.
