Cyprus to host 9th safer gambling conference — Cyprus Mail

The ninth safer gambling conference, organized by Cyprus’ National Betting Authority, will take place in Nicosia, Cyprus, on October 12, 2026. Participants will discuss player protection, countering the illegal gambling market, and technologies for the early detection of potentially harmful behavior.

According to Cyprus Mail, the event will be held at the Hilton hotel from 09:00 to 14:30 as part of Safer Gambling Week 2026. The conference will focus on the future of player protection and building a more sustainable gambling industry through innovation.

Illegal market and technology

The program covers gambling-related harm, psychological and biological factors behind risk-taking tendencies, changes in European regulation, and measures to strengthen player protection. It will also examine trends in the illegal gambling market, enforcement challenges, and the use of data and other tools to identify unlawful activity.

Participants include specialists in regulation, law, research, and technology. Independent researcher Michael Auer will present an approach to analyzing real player behavior data, harm indicators, and the effect of personalized feedback. Christina Savvouri of Mindway AI will discuss the use of neuroscience, psychology, and artificial intelligence for the early detection of potentially harmful gambling-related behavior.

Participants from Cyprus and Europe

Francesco Rodano, head of responsible gaming at Allwyn, Graziella Caffari, a representative of the Malta Gaming Authority, and specialists from Germany, Italy, and Slovenia will also join the discussions. Cyprus will be represented by Chara A. Demetriou, president of the Cyprus Psychologists Association, and Lucy Herodotou Mouskou, director of the Financial Management Directorate of the Central Government at the Ministry of Finance.

Safer Gambling Week 2026 will include informational and educational events aimed at promoting a more responsible approach to betting and gambling, prevention, and the protection of young people and vulnerable groups.
