Former footballer Ramon Vega announces bid for FIFA presidency — Interia Sport

Former Switzerland national team footballer Ramon Vega has announced his intention to run for FIFA president. The election of the head of the international football organization is scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Morocco.

Vega’s third attempt

As Interia Sport reports, the 55-year-old Vega published an 11-page document in which he said he wants to protect the integrity of football, the people in it, and its future. Among the candidate’s stated goals are uniting the global football community, carrying out genuine and sustainable reforms, modernizing FIFA, and restoring trust in the organization.

For Vega, this will be the third attempt to compete for the position of FIFA president. He considered taking part in the 2015 election after Sepp Blatter’s resignation, as well as four years ago. On both occasions, he failed to secure sufficient support to officially register his candidacy.

Support from federations

To become an official candidate, Vega must receive endorsements from at least five of FIFA’s 211 member associations. The deadline for submitting candidacies expires on November 18.

During his football career, Vega played as a central defender. He played for Tottenham, Grasshoppers Zurich, Cagliari, Watford, and Celtic. After ending his playing career, he worked in the financial sector.
