Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing

Ukraine’s top-ranked tennis player, Elina Svitolina, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA 1000) China Open in Beijing, China. The tournament’s prize pool totals more than $9.4 million.

In the fourth round of the tournament in the Chinese capital, Svitolina (No. 7 in the WTA rankings) confidently defeated American Ann Lee (No. 30) 6-2, 6-3 in 1.5 hours.

This is Elina’s first appearance in Beijing since 2019, and her eighth overall at this tournament. Ten years ago, she also reached the quarterfinals.

Svitolina’s next opponent will be China’s Zheng Qinwen (No. 54).

The China Open will continue in Beijing through October 11.

Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament in Beijing and commented on her victory over Sakkari.

Elina Svitolina lost to Belgium’s Greet Minnen in the quarterfinals of the Billie Jean King Cup. The Ukrainian’s defeat marked an unfortunate end to her match for the Ukrainian national team at the tournament.

Earlier, Svitolina sent a heartfelt birthday message to Monfils on his 40th birthday.

As a reminder, a Russian attack damaged Svitolina and Stakhovsky’s padel club.
