Ukraine lost to Hungary in a crucial Nations League match
The Ukrainian national team lost to Hungary 1–2 in a Nations League match. The game took place in Trnava, Slovakia, where the Ukrainians were unable to earn any points.
Ukraine looked better at the start of the match and had several chances to open the scoring. Ocheretko hit the crossbar in the 11th minute, Ponomarenko missed the goal with a heel shot from close range, and Krasnopir, after an interception, was also unable to deliver a decisive shot. At the same time, the Ukrainians did not establish a significant advantage over their opponent.
Hungary played cautiously for the most part and posed virtually no threat to Trubin’s goal. Before halftime, the team managed only one shot on goal, while Ukraine controlled the ball more and made more forays into the penalty area. However, they failed to capitalize on their chances, so the score remained 0–0 after 45 minutes.
After the break, Ukraine conceded a goal when the Hungarians capitalized on a defensive error. Following a pass from Vitalish, Marton Tot found space behind the defenders, went one-on-one with Trubin, and put the hosts ahead in the 52nd minute. After that, the game settled down somewhat, and the Ukrainians struggled for a long time to create enough danger in front of the opponent’s goal.
Substitutions helped boost the team’s attack: Pikhalonok and Yaremchuk managed to set up a goal in the 83rd minute, equalizing the score off a set piece. However, Ukraine was unable to hold on to the draw. Just two minutes after a cross from Roland Tot, Sarapiy couldn’t reach the ball, and Chinger took advantage of the situation to score the winning goal. The final score was 1–2, although based on the first half, Ukraine had reason to hope for a better result.
