The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the possibility of the plague spreading to Ukraine from Russian territory

Ukrainian authorities and the healthcare system are closely monitoring the situation regarding a possible outbreak of plague in Russia; however, as of now, no threat of the infection spreading to Ukraine has been identified. Countries neighboring Russia are already tightening border control measures in response to the situation.

During a briefing, Georgiy Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that the Russian authorities are repeating Soviet-era practices of concealing information and are demonstrating an inability to ensure an adequate level of protection against epidemics.

This was reported by “RBC-Ukraine.”

In Russia’s Irkutsk region, 189 people were hospitalized following the death of a 28-year-old woman linked to an anti-plague institute. In total, authorities identified 197 people who may have come into contact with the deceased.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States is ready to assist Russia amid reports of a suspected case of pneumonic plague in Irkutsk.
