German neo-fascists have initiated a review of the suspension of aid to Ukraine
The pro-Russian parties “Alternative for Germany” and the Alliance for Social Justice plan to pass a resolution in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt to pass a resolution calling for an end to military and financial aid to Ukraine and the lifting of economic sanctions against Russia.
The draft document asserts that the policy of sanctions and arms supplies has failed; therefore, it calls on the state government to demand, through the Bundesrat, an immediate ceasefire, peace talks, and the normalization of economic relations with Moscow.
The initiative will primarily have a symbolic effect, as issues of foreign policy, sanctions, and military support fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government in Berlin and the European Union institutions in Brussels. Representatives of far-right and left-wing populist forces, Ulrich Sigmund and Sarah Wagenknecht, have announced their intention to increase pressure on Germany’s central government to halt funding for Ukraine.
