The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv has once again sustained damage as a result of Russian shelling. Following a massive rocket attack, debris from a Russian rocket fell onto the studio’s grounds and damaged the film studios.

“Another difficult night and a morning of bad news. The film studio’s three-pavilion complex was hit by a massive rocket attack. There are no fatalities at this time,” the studio said in a statement.

After the attack, rescue workers, police, and emergency medical teams were on the scene.

The Ministry of Culture reported that debris from a Russian missile pierced the roofs of the sixth and seventh soundstages at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio.

The falling debris caused a fire on the studio’s grounds, which has already been extinguished. Experts are currently inspecting the damaged buildings and assessing the extent of the damage.

Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna emphasized that Russian attacks are damaging not only infrastructure but also sites of Ukrainian cultural heritage.

“Once again, Russia is attacking Ukrainian culture and our cinematic heritage. The Dovzhenko Film Studio had already suffered serious damage as a result of Russian strikes, and today the enemy has once again damaged its soundstages. This is a place where Ukrainian cinema was created, where generations of our artists worked, and where an important part of the history of Ukrainian cinema is preserved,” the Ministry of Culture’s press service quoted Tetyana Berezhna as saying.

The ministry noted that the Dovzhenko Film Studio has already suffered significant damage on multiple occasions due to Russian attacks. Previous strikes damaged 18 buildings, utility networks, and cultural heritage sites on the studio’s grounds.

Among the damaged structures are the main film studio built in 1927–1928, the administrative and laboratory buildings, the “Shchors Building” (Film Studio Museum), the costume workshop, administrative buildings, combined filming workshops, the cafeteria, the power plant, the film archive, the dormitory, and other structures.

Some of these structures have been designated as monuments of scientific and technical history of national and local significance.

The Ministry of Culture noted that following the June attacks on the film studio’s grounds, urgent emergency restoration work has begun.

“Following the June attacks on the film studio’s grounds, urgent emergency repair and restoration work has begun. These efforts are aimed at protecting the damaged buildings from further destruction and creating the conditions necessary to resume production activities,” the statement reads.

Currently, experts are continuing to inspect the damaged structures and assess the damage caused by the Russian attack.
