Germany's intelligence chief warned of the risk of war with Russia

Germany must prepare for a possible direct armed conflict with Russia. This was stated by Martin Jäger, president of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND).

According to him, the current standoff should not be viewed as a temporary escalation. European countries need to strengthen their defense capabilities and be prepared for a prolonged period of tension.

Jäger noted that the Russian threat extends beyond the hostilities in Ukraine. In his assessment, Moscow is using cyberattacks, disinformation, sabotage, and other hybrid methods to exert pressure on European states.

The head of the BND also drew attention to the aggressive rhetoric of the Russian authorities and their attempts to test European countries’ readiness to respond to various forms of pressure.

He specifically highlighted the risks to critical infrastructure, government institutions, and the information space. According to him, while such actions are difficult to unequivocally classify as a military attack, they can pose serious security threats.

NATO is preparing a new concept of operations in the event of a Russian attack on Alliance countries. Bloomberg reviewed the unclassified version: the document calls for a combination of conventional weapons with drones, automated systems, and artificial intelligence. The “Theory of Victory” is scheduled to be presented on October 12 in Poland.

In Poland, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór responded to Moscow’s letter to NATO, in which the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — allegedly warned of the possible use of nuclear weapons in the event of an attempt to cut off the Kaliningrad region.
