In the Kupiansk sector, Russia is stepping up its use of large drones

In the Kupiansk sector, Russia is stepping up its use of large drones

In the Kupiansk sector, Russian forces are increasing their use of various types of drones. New reconnaissance drones, including large unmanned aerial vehicles, are appearing in the air with increasing frequency.

According to him, one of the types of drones that the Russian military is increasingly using in the Kupiansk sector is the “Orlan-10.” The enemy is deploying these reconnaissance drones on a fairly large scale.

Yuriy Fedorenko noted that previously, the “Orlan-10” was used primarily by specialized units created by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. Ukrainian drone operators from “Achilles” hunted down these drones and struck their launch and base locations.

According to the brigade commander, following these losses, the Russians changed the way their crews operate.

“In a specialized, targeted manner, they separated the navigator-pilot pair and the launch team. Then the enemy took due note of the fact that they were losing FSB colonels who piloted those very ‘Orlans,’ and they split the groups up. In other words, the navigator-pilot pair remains at a distance, in a protected location, while the spotter group, which positions and launches the drones, is already in the launch area,” noted Yuriy Fedorenko.

Thus, the Russian military separated the crews from the immediate launch teams to reduce the risks to the reconnaissance drone operators.

The increase in the number of “Orlan-10s” and other large reconnaissance drones indicates that Russia is making more active use of aerial reconnaissance in the Kupiansk direction.

At the same time, Ukrainian units continue to detect and engage Russian drones and elements of their infrastructure.

It was previously reported that, due to Russian strikes on logistics routes in the Orikhiv sector, ground-based robotic systems (GRS) have taken on the bulk of the burden of delivering supplies.

Major Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the 429th Separate “Achilles” Unmanned Systems Brigade, spoke about this on Army TV.

Russian troops are advancing in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk Oblast.

Over the past day, 202 combat engagements took place on the front lines. The highest number of Russian assaults was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction—27 attacks, all of which were repelled by Ukrainian forces.

On October 7, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine updated the data on Russian military losses in the war against Ukraine. Over the past day, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 1,690 invaders.
