Iranian attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have reached record levels

Iranian attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have reached record levels

The intensity of Iranian attacks and shelling of commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz has reached its highest level since records began. The large-scale escalation of armed conflict in this critically important maritime corridor poses a direct threat to the safety of civilian shipping, the lives of crews, and the stability of global energy supply chains.

A significant portion of the world’s oil is transported through the Strait of Hormuz, making it a vital hub for the global energy market.

Constant attacks involving missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the laying of mines are forcing international carriers to reroute their vessels, leading to a significant increase in the cost of marine cargo insurance and raising the risk of another spike in global fuel prices. The rapid increase in the number of provocations indicates a deliberate escalation of pressure on the international community and shipping companies.

This was reported by the Reuters news agency.

In the Strait of Hormuz, a shell struck the Panamanian-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace. Twelve crew members were injured, including 11 Indian nationals.

Oil prices rose slightly amid security concerns in the Middle East, which heightened the geopolitical premium in the market. At the same time, stable oil exports from the region and the emergency release of reserves by G7 countries have eased concerns about potential supply disruptions.
