Yemen’s Transport Ministry reports Houthi attack on Aden airport — Cyprus Mail

In Yemen, the Ministry of Transport said that the Houthis attacked Aden International Airport on Wednesday morning with ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones. According to Cyprus Mail, one of the missiles fell near the runway several minutes before a plane arriving from Cairo was due to land. The landing was cancelled, and the aircraft was diverted to Jeddah.

Aircraft moved from the runway

According to the ministry, two aircraft that were on the runway were moved due to fears of further strikes. Houthi representatives did not immediately comment on reports of the attack on the airport.

Aden International Airport is the main international air gateway for areas of Yemen not controlled by the Houthis.

Mutual claims of strikes in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabia-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government said it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile north of Riyadh. According to the coalition, it tracked a launcher over Houthi-controlled Sanaa and intended to destroy it. The coalition provided no information on casualties or damage.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group had attacked King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with several drones. The Saudi side did not immediately confirm this information.

Earlier the same day, the coalition also reported intercepting a ballistic missile launched toward the city of Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Saree separately claimed that the Houthis attacked Abha International Airport and an air base in Khamis Mushait with missiles and drones.

The attacks took place amid intensified fighting in Yemen. Government forces, supported by coalition aircraft, launched an offensive this week to retake territory on the Red Sea coast near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the city of Mocha.
