Microsoft plans to update Windows search with commands and Copilot — Engadget
Microsoft has announced that it plans to update the search menu in Windows this fall. Engadget reports. After the redesign, users will be able to enter short text commands directly in the menu interface to perform thousands of different actions in the system.
Commands for Windows settings
During the fall Surface presentation, Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft’s executive vice president for Windows and devices, demonstrated how the new Start menu works. In particular, he showed how it can be used to quickly turn settings such as dark mode and Do Not Disturb mode on and off.

Microsoft intends to turn the operating system’s search menu into a chatbot-like tool. Commands for controlling Windows features will be able to be entered directly into its interface.
Access to Copilot
Davuluri also demonstrated that the updated menu will make it possible to communicate with the new Copilot app without launching the program separately. The company announced the redesign less than a year after promising to remove unnecessary Copilot integration from Windows 11.
