135 mobile shelters will be installed along Ukraine's border

In Ukraine, there are plans to install 135 mobile shelters at 28 border crossing points and on the access roads leading to them. The shelters will be set up in five regions so that people and border crossing staff can take cover in the event of an air threat.

Plans are in place to install 135 primary mobile shelters along the Ukrainian border. They will be set up at 28 border crossing points and on the access roads leading to them. The new shelters will be installed simultaneously in five border regions. These are the Vinnytsia, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, and Volyn regions. Regional Recovery Services are already procuring the necessary structures. In other words, the process of installing the shelters has already begun at the procurement stage.

The shelters are intended to provide people with a place to take cover quickly during an air raid alert. This applies to both passengers crossing the border and the staff at the border crossing points themselves. “The installation of shelters will enhance the safety of people crossing the state border, as well as checkpoint staff,” stated the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development.

The agency noted that border crossing points remain a vital part of the border infrastructure. People and vehicles pass through them daily, so their uninterrupted operation must be maintained even during wartime. That is why shelters are intended to serve as an additional safety measure at these facilities. They will be installed not only directly at the border crossing points but also on the access roads.

This is important because during an air raid alert, people may not all be near the checkpoint buildings. Some passengers and drivers may be waiting in line on the access roads leading to the border. Mobile shelters should allow them to move to a safer location. The State Agency for Reconstruction emphasized that the installation of these structures is part of measures to protect border infrastructure.

At this time, the agency’s statement does not specify the exact timeline for installing all 135 shelters. At the same time, procurement is already underway in all five regions where these structures are planned to be installed. Thus, the new protective structures are expected to be installed at 28 border crossing points and on the roads leading to them. Their main purpose is to provide people and border personnel with a place to take shelter quickly during shelling or other aerial threats. This was reported by the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development.
