Indonesia has tightened health inspections at its borders due to the threat of Russian plague
Indonesia has stepped up health screenings at points of entry into the country, particularly at the Bali resort, following reports from Russia of the death of a laboratory worker in the Irkutsk region and the hospitalization of nearly 200 people who had been in contact with her.
Although the World Health Organization has not issued any alerts regarding the need for heightened vigilance due to potential disease transmission, the country’s authorities are strengthening preparedness measures and screening at airports and seaports. This was stated by Aji Muhawarman, director of the Communications and Public Information Bureau at the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
According to the Russian Tour Operators Association, 129,672 tourists from Russia visited Bali in the first half of the year, which is only 2% less than the record figure for the same period in 2025, and travelers are increasingly opting for combined itineraries that extend beyond the island.
This was reported by Indonesia’s state news agency Antara.
As a reminder, a plague outbreak has occurred in Russia, and there has already been one fatality.
In Russia, nearly 200 people have been hospitalized after coming into contact with a woman who died of pneumonic plague.
Prior to this, the death of a woman from the plague was confirmed in Buryatia.
