President Mattarella calls for antisemitism to be rejected forever — ANSA English
In Italy, President Sergio Mattarella, on the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, said that antisemitism, terrorism, and all manifestations of ethnic and religious hatred must be condemned and rejected forever. This was reported by ANSA English.
Condemnation of the October 7 attack
Mattarella called the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians shameful. According to him, young people, including citizens of other countries, were attacked, taken hostage, or killed during a festival. Other people, the president added, were killed or abducted in their homes, with neither children nor elderly people spared.
The Italian president stressed that terrorist acts cannot be justified or hushed up. He called the events of October 7 a painful warning to all peoples about what terrorism, antisemitism, and other forms of ethnic and religious hatred can lead to.

The situation in Gaza and two states
At the same time, Mattarella drew attention to the suffering of Palestinians, which, in his assessment, intensified especially after the 2023 attack. He stated that military operations by Israeli forces in Gaza caused exceptionally severe human and material losses.
The president also called the reduction of the territories allocated to the Palestinian National Authority unacceptable. In his view, it is necessary to stop the spiral of violence and restore conditions for Israelis and Palestinians to coexist under the principle of “two peoples, two states,” so that they can live side by side in peace.
