The FSB wants to allow generals and their relatives to travel in business class
Russia’s FSB has proposed upgrading the travel class for the agency’s leadership, high-ranking officers, and their relatives. The corresponding draft order has been published on the Russian regulatory portal.
According to the document, members of the FSB’s executive board—the director of the service, his deputies, and other senior officials—will be able to travel in first class during official trips, vacations, and medical treatment. If first-class seats are not available, they are to be provided with business class.
Senior officers and military personnel in corresponding positions are being offered the option to upgrade from economy class to business class. For officials at the level of deputy department head and above, “comfort” class is provided.
Relatives of FSB employees who are entitled to free travel will be eligible for the same travel categories. The families of deceased service members will retain the class of travel that was designated for the service member at the time of his or her death.
Separately, the document provides for payment for additional seats when transporting weapons, ammunition, specialized equipment, documents, and military property. All official travel by FSB employees will be paid for by the state.
Proposals to improve comfort for security forces came amid Russia’s significant budgetary expenditures on its security apparatus. At the same time, the FSB plans to reduce the issuance of certain items of uniform, including dress caps, woolen tunics, and white shirts.
