In Cyprus, Cyprus Mail reported that EU member state ambassadors are expected to approve about 1,650 new additions to sanctions lists concerning Russia, the aggressor state, on Wednesday. EU diplomats reported this on Tuesday.

Military-industrial complex

Most of the new listings will concern Russia's military-industrial complex. About 1,570 entries on the lists will apply to companies and individuals involved in this sector.

More than half of these listings will focus on missile production. According to diplomats, the package could become the EU's largest single set of sanctions listings since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Further procedure

Following the expected approval by the ambassadors, the lists are to be submitted to EU foreign ministers for final approval. This is planned for next Monday.
