Leps Demands the Truth About a Possible Plague Outbreak in Russia
Russian singer Grigory Leps expressed concern over reports of a possible plague outbreak in the Irkutsk region. Ahead of a scheduled concert, his representative contacted Rospotrebnadzor and asked for “reliable information” about the situation in the region.
Russian singer Grigory Leps, who supports the Russian government and the war against Ukraine, may reconsider his plans to travel to Irkutsk due to reports of a possible plague outbreak. Leps is scheduled to perform on October 11 at the “Iceberg” Ice Palace in Irkutsk. However, before the trip, the singer’s representatives decided to find out how safe it is to be in the region.
According to a Russian source, a representative of Leps contacted Rospotrebnadzor to request information about the actual epidemiological situation in the Irkutsk region. He was particularly interested in whether there really was no outbreak of plague or pneumonia in the region. Previously, Russian authorities had denied reports of an outbreak of a dangerous infection.
A source who allegedly works at Rospotrebnadzor claims that Leps’s assistant spoke quite forcefully. He demanded an explanation of what was actually happening in the region and whether it would be safe for the singer to travel there for a concert. “They said, ‘You have to understand, Grigory Viktorovich can’t get sick; he can’t take any risks. You might think that others can. They referred me to the leadership—they know better how to respond—I don’t need any extra trouble,’” the source said.
At the same time, it’s important to note that this information comes from Russian media and an unnamed source. There is no official confirmation in the cited reports that Leps personally demanded that information about the outbreak be disclosed. Previously, Russian authorities denied reports of a plague outbreak in the Irkutsk region. However, the issue became a topic of discussion following reports of possible cases of the dangerous infection and safety measures in the region.
This is not the first time security risks have affected Lep’s concerts. This past summer, the singer had already canceled performances due to potential drone attacks. Now, according to Russian media reports, his team has decided to independently assess the epidemiological situation before traveling to Irkutsk.
What is known about the plague situation
Earlier, media reports emerged about a possible plague outbreak in Russia. In particular, attention was drawn to the situation in the Irkutsk region following the mysterious death of a lab technician. Against this backdrop, reports surfaced about possible cases of the dangerous infection and the tightening of sanitary measures. At the same time, Russian authorities denied reports of a large-scale outbreak.
Concerns were also raised regarding the pneumonic form of the plague. This form is considered particularly dangerous because it can be transmitted from person to person through airborne droplets. Earlier, the United States urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately due to reports of a possible plague outbreak. However, these statements do not constitute proof that a large-scale epidemic has been officially confirmed in Russia.
Against the backdrop of these reports, attention to the situation in the Irkutsk region has increased. Now, the story involving Leps, who is scheduled to perform in the region on October 11, has added to the attention. At this time, there is no confirmation that the concert has been canceled. Likewise, there is no official information that Leps has canceled his trip to Irkutsk. This is what Russian media outlets are reporting.
