Active search efforts for 56 missing Ukrainians in Nepal have been suspended

In Nepal, a 40-day active search-and-rescue operation is coming to an end following massive flooding. Fifty-six Ukrainian citizens remain missing.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the natural disaster in Nepal claimed the lives of 1,455 people, with another 5,285 still missing. In China, 43 people died, and another 519 are missing, including 261 foreigners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the completion of the active search phase does not mean the end of the rescue efforts. Rescuers continue to locate and identify the remains of the deceased.

The Nepalese authorities have also begun procedures to legally declare the missing persons deceased. Consequently, the Ukrainian Embassy in India has resubmitted a note to the relevant Nepalese authorities regarding the official documentation of the deaths of those whose remains could not be found or identified.

The National Police of Ukraine are continuing their pre-trial investigation and are finalizing the creation of a database of DNA profiles of the relatives of the missing. This database will subsequently be transferred to the Nepalese side for further identification.
