BMW shows electric M3 with near-production body — InsideEVs
BMW has released new teaser images of the upcoming electric M3, showing the sports sedan with the least amount of camouflage yet. The car already has finished body panels and lighting units, InsideEVs reports. The electric version of the M3 is expected to be unveiled in 2027, with production set to begin in Munich the same year.
Design brought closer to production version
In terms of silhouette, the new model is close to the M Concept Neue Klasse concept presented by BMW in June. At the same time, the production model has more restrained aerodynamic elements, conventional exterior mirrors and did not receive the ducktail spoiler featured on the concept.
The teasers reveal widened wheel arches, a ventilated hood and yellow graphic elements in the headlights. Distinctive square lighting elements are positioned below. The sculpted arches and wider visual stance are intended to help distinguish the electric M3 from the previously shown BMW i3 M60.
Four motors and torque distribution
The electric M3 is being developed on the Neue Klasse platform. According to the publication, the car will receive four independent electric motors, one for each wheel. The company has not disclosed the model's final output, though the report mentions rumors of versions with up to 1,000 horsepower.

Such a powertrain is expected to have an advanced torque-vectoring system capable of independently regulating power at each wheel. This should help the car negotiate corners, improve traction on corner exits and enable drifting.
A dedicated sound for the electric vehicle
BMW M is also working on a sound accompaniment for the electric M3. Engineers studied the sound of iconic M models with internal combustion engines, but used the sound of the electric motors themselves as the basis. The goal is to create sound signals that convey the sensation of speed and acceleration rather than imitate a gasoline engine.
BMW M previously stated that the electric M3 and the successor to the current gasoline-powered G80-generation M3 should be in a similar price range. BMW has not yet announced when deliveries of the electric sedan to customers will begin.
