Former prosecutors from Crimea were sentenced to 12 and 13 years for treason

Two former female prosecutors from Crimea were convicted of treason. The court sentenced them to 12 and 13 years in prison.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

“Prosecutors from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea’s Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that two former employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were guilty of treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The convicted women were sentenced to 12 and 13 years in prison, with confiscation of property. They were also barred from holding positions in law enforcement agencies for a period of 3 years,” the statement reads.

It is noted that prior to the occupation of the peninsula, they held the positions of senior prosecutor for international legal affairs at the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and prosecutor at the Alushta City Prosecutor’s Office.

However, in 2014, the employees betrayed their oath and began working for the so-called “Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea.”

According to a source in law enforcement agencies who spoke to Ukrinform, the individuals in question are Anastasia Maksyuta and Olena Romanyuk.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that by their actions—assuming the positions of prosecutors in the illegally established Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea and performing the duties assigned to them—the convicted individuals aided in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine, and in the establishment and operation of the Russian Federation’s occupation authorities on the peninsula, which led to the intensification of temporary occupation measures.
