UN Secretary-General António Guterres urges US and Iran to end war — Anadolu Agency
In Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged the United States and Iran to end the war and return to diplomacy. As Anadolu Agency reports, he also called on all parties to fully restore navigation rights and freedoms in accordance with international law.
Pakistan's role in dialogue
Guterres made the statement at a joint press conference with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The UN secretary-general is visiting Pakistan from Tuesday to Thursday.
According to Guterres, Pakistan's efforts helped achieve the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding of June 17, the subsequent ceasefire, and establish a basis for future negotiations. He described the country's role in creating conditions for dialogue between the United States and Iran as key.

Discussion of regional issues
Separately, Guterres stated that peace in the region is impossible without the full implementation of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. Dar said the sides discussed issues of peace and security, including Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan, counterterrorism, and the future of the multilateral system.
The minister also informed the UN secretary-general of Pakistan's positions on Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. He reiterated Islamabad's call for a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
